Chief Executive Officer
Scott Houlton is an experienced industry executive with over 25 years of experience across a number of pharmaceutical services companies. Scott joined CSM as CEO in 2016 to help drive continued growth and expansion. Prior to joining CSM, Scott was President, Development & Clinical Services and an Officer at Catalent, Inc. where he helped build the business into the leading global development service provider with operations in the US, Europe and Asia. During this time, Scott led the expansion of the business through strong organic growth and numerous acquisitions, including establishing the first full service clinical packaging facility in China. Past roles include Chief Operating Officer at Aptuit, Inc., Vice-President, Clinical Supplies at Quintiles Transnational and various management positions at Cardinal Health, Inc. and General Electric.
As CEO, Scott has responsibility for all aspects of the business and reports to the Board of Directors. He brings a deep passion for building businesses and strong leadership teams. Clinical Supplies is a specialized part of the industry that allows for directly helping patients in need to receive critically important medicines while creating great value for pharmaceutical and biotech companies developing new compounds. The intersection of helping patients while creating value and developing talent offers Scott the unique opportunity to drive real, lasting benefit.
Scott is originally from Ohio and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Finance and in International Business from The Ohio State University.
Philippe Van der Hofstadt
Philippe Van der Hofstadt is an industrial pharmacist, pharmaceutical engineer, entrepreneur, service provider, and advisor to the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. He has over 25 years’ experience in clinical research logistics, IMPs and central labs.
As the EU President of CSM Europe, Philippe leads the European operations for CSM. Prior to CSM, he was the Chief Executive Officer of B&C Group, a European packaging and logistics company dedicated to clinical research.
Philippe graduated from Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. He is a board member of the Belgian Association of CROs (BeCRO), chair member of the European QP Association (EQPA) IMP Working Group and former board member and chair of the European CRO Federation (EUCROF) Outsourcing Management Working Group.
Brian Swites has over 30 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, specializing in global clinical supply chain management. As President, Brian oversees global capabilities, strategic partnerships, and ensures overall growth and performance goals are being met. This role is crucial in supporting CSM's future growth, which includes expanding our innovative offerings and opening multiple locations throughout the United States.
Prior to joining CSM, Brian held various management positions during his 13 years at Cephalon, Inc./Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries, Ltd. He received his Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing from the Stevens Institute of Technology. Brian joined the CSM team in January 2015 and has since held a series of leadership roles, most recently serving as Vice President of Operations.
Vice President, Global Compliance and Risk Management
Michael Bernstein, M.S., brings over 26 years of Compliance experience in the pharmaceutical industry to the CSM team. Prior to joining CSM, Bernstein held various R&D and Manufacturing Compliance positions during his 26-years at Merck & Co. Inc. Michael's last position at Merck was Head of Controlled Substance Compliance, in which he provided compliance oversight and assurance for all global controlled substance activities.
Currently, as Vice President of Global Compliance and Risk Management, Michael is responsible for the oversight of CSM's global compliance and quality programs as well as providing strategic guidance on matters relating to compliance and risk management. He also oversees the Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Information Technology departments at CSM.
Michael is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a member of the American Society for Quality, Parenteral Drug Association, and Professional Risk Managers' International Association. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from Thomas Jefferson University Cum Lade and his Master of Science degree from Rutgers University.
Roger O. Gasper
Chief Financial Officer
Roger Gasper joins CSM as Chief Financial Officer. Roger has over 25 years of experience in finance and was most recently Chief Financial Officer of the JG Wentworth Company, a publicly held, diversified financial services company with over $4 Billion in assets.
Previously, Roger spent several years in the life science industry at Ricerca, Nordion and MDS Pharma Services and started his career at Ernst & Young. Roger will be responsible for global finance and treasury functions and joins the executive leadership team.
Vice President Global Marketing and Sales
David Fontaine brings about 20 years of experience in business development to the CSM team. As the Vice President Global Marketing and Sales, Fontaine leads the sales and marketing team at CSM Europe and US.
Prior to the acquisition of B&C Group by CSM, David was Chief Business Development Officer at B&C Group for about two years where he helped build the business into a leading global clinical service provider with operations in the US and Europe. Prior to that, David spent about five years as Managing Director and co-founder of a renewable energy business company. Past roles include over eight years with GSK Vaccines where he was in charge of R&D Partnering and Licensing and four years of business development with biotech companies, Rhein Biotech and Berna Biotech.
David is originally from Belgium and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in International Business from the ESEJ Business College (Belgium) and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Maastricht University (The Netherlands).
Vice President Operational Systems
Benoit Cloquet has over 27 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical services industry. He established the logistics operations of two leading central laboratories and was Worldwide Discipline Director of Logistics for the clinical trials division of the Laboratory Corporation of America. He has extensive experience in the harmonization of logistic processes between operations in different continents. Before the acquisition of B&C Group by CSM, Benoit was COO and board member of the company. He combined this function with the role of project leader for the development and implementation of an ERP system specifically dedicated to the Drug Development and Clinical Trials Logistics.
As Vice President Operational Systems, Benoit brings his operational and systems expertise to CSM and will focus on the implementation of global tools throughout the different locations of the company in the US and in Europe.
Benoit is a Certified Logistics Auditor and graduated Cum Laude with a Master in Business Administration, International relations and Diplomacy from the EHSAL in Brussels.
